FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

+ Where can I find your meals?

Our meals are available in stores in Connecticut, New York, the MidAtlantic and Texas. You can find an updated list of our stores by visiting the Find Us page. If you are interested in having a store near you carry our products, you can “crowdstock” our brand by completing this short form. The more requests we get for a particular store, the more likely we are to get our products on shelf.

+ Where is your food made?

We currently make our dishes in partnership with a contract manufacturer in upstate New York.

+ Where do you source your ingredients from?

We work with our manufacturer to source the highest quality legumes, grains, vegetables, and herbs to make our meals. In the future, we plan on sourcing fresh, locally-grown vegetables to make a line of seasonal meals.

+ How much vegetable content is in each meal?

There are between 1.5-4 servings of vegetables in each meal. The FAO recommends eating at least five servings (or 400 grams) of fruits and vegetables per day.

+ Are your meals certified vegan?

All our dishes are made with no animal products and are therefore vegan. We are currently not certified vegan.

+ Are your meals gluten-free?

All of our dishes are made with ingredients that do not contain gluten. Our manufacturing partner tests our product to ensure each meal contains less than 10 ppm of gluten. Although our products are not certified, they are maintained under the GFCO certification by our manufacturing partner.

+ What about your Mushroom Oat Risotto - is that gluten-free?

The steel cut oats we use in our oat risotto are not certified gluten-free, but as stated previously, each batch of our meals undergoes quality control evaluation to ensure the products contain under 10 ppm of gluten.

+ Are there any nuts in your products?

No, we do not use any nuts or nut products in our meals. The only exception is coconut, which is considered a tree nut by the FDA.

+ Can I heat your meals in the oven?

Yes. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Remove meal from tray. Place meal in oven-safe dish and bake for 20 minutes. Stir and enjoy.

+ Can I heat your meals on the stovetop?

Yes. Set your stove to low-medium heat and add 1-2 tablespoons of oil to the pan. Remove meal from tray and add to the hot pan and cover. Stir frequently by flipping over the block of food. Add more oil or water to prevent sticking and burning. Cook for 10-15 minutes or until the block of food has completely separated and food is hot.

+ Can I buy your meals online?

Yes, you can order our meals through our website by going to the Buy Our Meals page and choosing how many meals you would like to order. We currently only ship to customers based in the Northeast and Midatlantic regions. Learn more about whether we can deliver to you by visiting our Buy Our Meals page. If you have any questions about ordering or delivery, do not hesitate to email us at hello@fireoxfoods.com. You can also buy our meals on Farm To People and Field Goods and have them delivered to your door.

+ How do I store my meals?

Store meals in the freezer before preparing. We do not recommend storing them in the refrigerator as it may affect quality.

+ How long can I store my meals for?

Meals can be stored up until the best by date stamped on the side of the box. We recommend eating our dishes within 2 weeks of purchase to ensure the highest quality.

+ How do I dispose of the tray?

We have switched from a PLA-lined compostable tray to a FSC-certified paper tray. We switched because the plastic film was not sealing properly to the tray. The tray should be disposed of in the trash.

The plastic film covering the tray is not recyclable or compostable and should be placed in the trash. We would like to source a film that is biodegradable or recyclable, but we haven’t been able to identify one at this time.

+ How do I dispose of the carton?

The meal carton is made from 100% recycled, uncoated paper. It can be recycled curbside with your other paper goods. To learn more about our packaging and why it is more sustainable than most frozen food packaging, visit our blog.

+ When will you be coming out with more varieties?

We plan on launching new vegetable dishes next year, but we aren’t sure exactly when. We also have plans to launch other delicious products. Sign up for our newsletter by visiting our homepage to stay in the loop on new product launches. If you have recipe ideas you would like to share with us, please email hello@fireoxfoods.com.
